Buzdar directs to expand scope of WCLA to entire province

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar presided over a meeting of Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) at his office in the provincial capital on Tuesday.

The meeting decided to expand the scope of WCLA to the entire province.

Addressing the meeting, Buzdar said that Lahore and many other cities enjoy historical importance and they could also promote tourism.

He explained that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is working to develop the tourism sector. The restoration of historic buildings, according to their original shape, will help to promote the tourism in the province, he added.

The chief minister directed that a committee should be constituted under the chairmanship of chief secretary to expand the scope of WCLA to other cities.

The committee would propose necessary steps in this regard.

He said that the historic Hiran Minar should be developed as an attractive tourist-spot as well. The meeting also accorded approval to hold festival to project the multifaceted history and culture of Punjab.

Buzdar said that such a festival would help to project the soft image of the country.

WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari briefed the meeting about organisational performance and the restoration of historic buildings.

Senior minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Heritage Conservation Board Chairman Yousaf Salahuddin, P&D chairman, secretaries of finance, local government and Auqaf departments, Lahore Division commissioner, CM Spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill and others attended the meeting.
